Abstract

The current proposal is based on the joint collaborative work on several aspects of the spectral behavior of atomic systems under external confinements: 1) the effect of surrounding confinement on atomic polarizabilities; 2) the pioneering work on the effect of liquid helium surroundings on the spectral line shifts and spectral line profiles of alkali atoms. On the theoretical side a lot of more investigations are necessary for comparison with the existing experimental investigations. Our current objective is to make detailed investigations of the effect of liquid helium surroundings on the spectral line shifts and line profiles of specially the alkali atoms for which accurate experimental observations have already been performed.
