Abstract

The aim of this project is to investigate the interaction of organic molecules with metallic nanoparticles, seeking for changes in nonlinear optical effects. This study will be carried out in collaboration with Prof. F.E. Hernández (Nanophotonics Materials Laboratory - Departmant of Chemistry - University of Central Florida). The cooperative effect between organic molecules and nanoparticles can enhance certain electronic responses, thereby amplifying nonlinear optical effects. A direct consequence of such process is the increase, of several orders of magnitude, in the multi-photon absorption cross-section of materials. These and other possibilities make the study of nanoparticles with organic materials a promising field, which can be exploited in applications from photonics to biology. Considering the experience of Prof. Hernández in the preparation and study of nonlinear process in organic materials with metallic nanoparticles, during his visit we will implement techniques for the preparation of organic compounds with metallic nanoparticles (suspension and functionalized). Subsequently we will perform studies on the nonlinear processes of these materials. (AU)
