Abstract

The present Project concerns the intensification of scientific, teaching and extension collaboration between the Federal University of Santa Maria, RS and UNICAMP through the visit of professor PhD Eduardo Furtado Flores as visitor scientist (PV). This collaboration will take place through the following activities: interaction between research projects/technology exchange, teaching/technical training and capacitation, teaching activities, editorial activities. Concerning collaboration in research, the PV will collaborate with is experience in epidemiological studies on virus infections in wild birds, research on antiviral drugs with potential therapeutic use, development of recombinant viruses and vectors for vaccine use. The candidate has experience in molecular epidemiology of virus infections and will collaborate on the molecular characterization and phylogeny of avian viruses. His experience in searching and testing antiviral drugs would also help in achieving the intended scientific exchange. The candidate PV is the organizer and editor of the book "Veterinary Virology" (UFSM press, 2007, 888p), whose first edition is sold out. The sold out of the first edition in two years shows the extensive penetration and use of this book among students and professionals. Thus, the period of the PV as visitor scientist in UNICAMP will also be used to organize/reformulate the first edition of the book, preparing a revised and updated second edition. (AU)
