Abstract
Future backbone networks will provide dynamic reconfigurability in multiple layers in the communication network infrastructure, forming a hierarchical structure with each layer being a network on its own, while having the flexibility to change the formation dynamically. In this proposed research, we plan to address two important design problems in multilayer networks: 1) how the dynamism due to traffic fluctuation affects multilayer network design, 2) how energy aware node capacity design may impact multilayer network design.
