Abstract

Professor. Dr. Michael J. Kaufman is the head of the Department of metallurgical and Materials Engineering Colorado School of Mines, CSM, located in Golden - USA, Fellow of the American Society for Metals, ASM, possesses extensive experience in Relation Structure-Property-Processing of Metals, Composites and Intermetallic, Physical Metallurgy and Phase Transformation, conventional and rapid solidification, characterization by X-ray diffraction and electron microscopy. The activities of 15 days of his coming will be with two research groups, one of DEMa / UFSCar and one of the SMM / EESC-USP including four projects financed by FAPESP and CNPq in the themes "Properties of amorphous alloys, metastable and nano-structured", "Development of new alloys based on titanium and nickel with high tendency to form amorphous structure", "Experimental evaluation of the microstructure, microsegregation, and mechanical properties of non-ferrous alloys during unidirectional solidification with and without induction convection" and "Formulation of new metallic glasses". Specifically the activities to be developed will be lectures, visits to laboratories, technical discussions, mini-course. (AU)
