Neutral wind and temperature measurements in the upper atmosphere and ionosphere in the Brazilian Amazon region

Abstract

The researches that we will intend to develop to aim at the studies in the upper atmosphere and ionosphere in the Amazonia region. The researches are related with temperature and wind measurements in the mesosphere and thermosphere using Lidar and Fabry-Perot interpherometer. The equipments will be installed in the ZF-2 biological station in the Amazonia region. This station belongs to the National institute for Amazonia Research - Inpa. The station is a strategic site to study the phenomena related with coupled between neutral atmosphere and ionosphere in the Amazonia region. Some phenomena that we intend to study like plasma bubbles, brightness waves and TID's interfere strongly in the satellite signals. In the Brazilian sector, these effects are more intense due to the high magnetic declination, equatorial anomaly and south Atlantic anomaly. The laser that we intend to install in the ZF-2 site to need technical improvements. These improvements are related with the acquisition of news seeds. With these news seeds we will measures the temperature and winds in the mesosphere region. Actually the laser radar measure only the mesospheric sodium density. We are requesting also funds to buy a Fabry-Perot interpherometer to measures the temperature and winds in the thermosphere (between 220 km - 300 km). Actually, the Brazil do not have equipments to measures temperature and wind in the upper atmosphere in the Amazonia region. These equipments required together with the all-sky imager, GPS, riometer and digisonde will improved the researches in the upper atmosphere in the Amazonia region. (AU)
