Abstract

The Chlamydophila felis is an agent of upper respiratory tract disease in cats. It is not yet established its zoonotic potential, but there is the possibility of a causative agent of conjunctivitis in immunosuppressed humans with intensive contact with their infected cat. Recent studies suggest a correlation of virulence and pathogenicity in strains of C. felis in the presence of cryptic plasmid. It's necessary not only to detect the presence of C. felis as well as the occurrence of this plasmid in cats. (AU)
