Abstract

Squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is a cancerous lesion with high incidence worldwide. The immunoregulatory events leading to SCC development remain to be elucidated. Our group show that regulatory T cells (Tregs) are important to obstruct antitumor immune responses in patients with OSCC. The migration of Tregs cells to the tumor microenviromment is an important mechanism to promote the local suppression of the effector immune response. Indeed, chemokines such CCL3, CCL4, CCL17, and CCL22, produced in inflammatory tissues, lead to the accumulation of CCR4+ and CCR5+ regulatory T cells in peripheral sites. CCL4 is a ligand of CCR5 and the most potent chemoattractant of Treg cells. Because regulatory T cells are in the lesions of SCC and the migration of Treg cells is dependent on the axis chemokine-chemokine receptors, we investigated the role of CCR5 during SCC development.
