Abstract
This project aims to contribute to the improving of taxonomic and systematic knowledge of the orders Ephemeroptera, Plecoptera and Trichoptera, training new taxonomists of these groups and to embody the use of molecular tools on the laboratory routines, reducing the Linnean, Wallacean and Henningian deficits for this fauna. To meet these goals, we will collect samples from different regions of Brazil and also fashion a data bank and an aquatic insect collection which will suit as a base for taxonomic, systematic, ecological and environmental studies. As specific objectives we have: 1) to review and proposal of the phylogeny of Plecoptera genera (e.g. Kempnyia, Macrogynoplax, Tupiperla and Paragrypopteryx) and of Trichoptera (e.g. Marilia); 2) to make a taxonomic studies of Ephemeroptera, Plecoptera and Trichoptera of different Brazilian regions; 3) to obtain the relationship between immatures and adult of Ephemeroptera, Plecoptera and Trichoptera; 4) to obtain the COI sequences for different species of EPT; 5) training new researchers in the taxonomy of aquatic insects. This project will continue the line of research of the coordinator, involving fellows from UNESP and other institutions and students of different academic levels (undergraduates and graduates) and post-doctoral researchers.
