Abstract

The visit of Prof. Nogueira to DEMa-UFSCar has as main objective, to contribute with our understanding of the surface and reactivity characteristics of metallic glasses and nanostructured alloys, specifically with respect to Fe-based amorphous and nanostructured alloys, which have been evaluated in our group as coatings for conventional steels, and to Mg-based amorphous alloys which are of interest for biomedical applications. We have already an ongoing collaboration between our groups at DEMa - UFSCar and INP - LEPMI in the area of corrosion properties of metallic glasses, which is the basis for the working plan to be developed during the visit. In this context, the visiting scientist will interact with our students, both by a series of seminars and by direct meetings to discuss their results and propose new experiments. The specific research topic to be addressed during the visit concerns the corrosion properties of Fe-based and Mg-based amorphous and nanostructured alloys of the different systems which are of interest to our group, such as: Fe-B-Nb, Fe-Cr-Ni-B, Fe-Cr-Nb-B and Mg-Ca-Zn.
