Multipurpose equipments, improvement of the infrastructure for laboratories and of the area for external storage of infectious waste (Group A) at FAMERP

Abstract

With the expansion in research in FAMERP and construction of 12 new laboratories appears regularly a demand for laboratory equipment and infrastructure improvements. In 2012, we identified the demand for a histological bath with round glass lid and a high-performance rotary microtome, for studies in the field of renal pathology and pathophysiology; cartridges and ultraviolet lamp for the Millipore water purification system, previously acquired using FAPESP grant (Process 2009/54669-3); semi-analytical balance to weight reagents; collector cars and containers suitable for external storage of infectious waste (Group A), that meet the specifications of the Brazilian legislation and biosafety; fire extinguishers (pressurized water extinguisher ,C02 extinguisher, and dry chemical extinguisher), installation of rubbers and insulfim rubbers to seal the windows of laboratories, for the protection of the equipment which has been damaged by the action of sunlight and dust. The equipment will be installed in the multipurpose area located in Block U6, which houses all 12 laboratories and will be available to all researchers. The car collector and containers suitable for external storage of infectious waste will be installed in a room located on the ground floor of Block U6. This room is ready for use and meets the requirements of Brazilian legislation (RDC 306). The rubber seals and "insufilm" will be installed on all laboratory's windows in Block U6. Fire extinguishers will be installed in the main corridors of the block U6, which provide access to all laboratories. The adaptations and facilities will be the responsibility of FAMERP. Several research projects involving students of Graduate, Masters, PhD and Postdoctoral will benefit from the acquisition of equipment and infrastructure improvements. (AU)
