Abstract

Hyperhidrosis is a relatively common disease and affects up to 1% of the population. The thoracoscopic sympathectomy improves the symptoms by 80 to 95%. The plantar hyperhidrosis may remain even after surgery in approximately 50% of patients and the compensatory sweating in almost 70%. Our objective is to evaluate the effectiveness of oxybutynin in the treatment of persistent plantar hyperhidrosis and quality of life in women who had already undergone thoracic sympathectomy. Method: We will conduct a prospective randomized study to compare oxybutynin, 10 mg daily, with placebo. Factors include: women with persistent plantar hyperhidrosis with limited their usual activities, body mass index <25 kg/m2, age between 18 and 40 years old. We will do the evaluation through questionnaires on quality of life for hyperhidrosis, a specific questionnaire for plantar hyperhidrosis and compensatory sweating. The sweat will be measured with a device for quantifying transepidermal water loss by evaporation - "Vapometer®". (AU)
