Abstract

Considering the oral health must be understood as integral and inseparable part of the individual overall health, studies about periapical lesions in osteopenic bodies are needed for information and understanding of the mechanisms that may be involved in this interaction. With advancing age, the lower production and secretion of estradiol contribute to decreased bone tissue associated with menopause, resulting in osteopenia and osteoporosis, which can be prevented with the implementation of hormone replacement therapy. In this experimental study will be used raloxifene, selective modulator of estrogen receptor, with selective agonist activity (on the bone tissue and cardiovascular) and antagonist (on the breast and uterus), reducing the side effects triggered by hormone replacement therapy. The aim of this study will be analyze and compare the periapical lesion, the concentrations of cellular activity markers of bone metabolism as well as analysis of protein expression OPG, RANK,RANKL, TRAP and HIF1-alpha as cellular markers of predisposition to resorption or formation of tissue bone in adult female rats (06 months) sham ovariectomized and treated or not with raloxifene.
