Abstract

Musculoskeletal symptoms are one of strongest causes of occupational affections and functional incapacity. On dentists class the most frequent Cumulative Trauma Disorders (DORT) are those that involves upper limbs and spine. Front this situation, the aim of this study is to evaluate the prevalence of musculoskeletal pain, the body parts most subject to injury and labor posture, on dentists. It's an exploratory, transversal and correlational study that will be performed with undergraduates and graduates of Univ. Estadual Paulista - UNESP/ School of Dentistry / Araçatuba Campus and dentists that works in public health system from countries of São Paulo State. Data will be collected through interview using the Brazilian version of Nordical Musculoskeletal Questionnaire and the instrument about labor factors that can contribute to musculoskeletal symptoms. For those who show symptoms, the Questionnaire for evaluation of incapacity caused by pain (The Pain Disability Questionnaire - PDQ) and the numerical scale for pain will be also applied. In both groups the postural deviations of those people who will consent to make part of this research will be evaluated by Portland State University Evaluation Method (PSU) adapted by Althoff, Heyden and Robertson (1988).
