Abstract

The problem of finding the maximum loading of a power system can be formulated as a mixed-discrete nonlinear optimization problem. Due to the difficulty of resolution imposed by discrete variables in nonlinear programming problems, in works found in literature based on determining of the maximum loadability via optimization techniques, commonly the discrete nature of the controls is ignored and the problem is modeled with only continuous variables. These formulations are unrealistic because some controls can be only adjusted by discrete steps. This research project has as objective to develop an approaching for the resolution of maximum loadability problem when modeled as a nonlinear optimization problem with continuous and discrete variables. Numerical tests with the IEEE test systems will be performed to validate the proposed approach. (AU)
