Social inequities and tuberculosis hospitalizations in the municipality of Ribeirão Preto (SP)

Abstract

The hospitalization for tuberculosis (TB) was identified as a clear indicator of inequity in access to health services as it is influenced by different aspects like social opportunities of the population, supply characteristics and health services in the territories. Several studies were proposed to measure the relationship between the admissions for TB and the supply/use of health services. However, the researches that verify the relationship between this indicator and social equity in the territories are still insufficient. Thus, this research aims to analyze the spatial distribution of admissions for TB according to the census tracts and its relationship with the social inequity, in the municipality of Ribeirão Preto - SP. This is an ecological study whose hospitalization data are going to be obtained from the Hospital Information System of the Health Unique System (SIH/SUS). The period corresponding to the selection of hospitalizations for TB will be from 2008 to 2012. The authors are going to use as analysis unit the census tracts defined by the Census of 2010, the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE). It is going to be constructed an equity indicator by considering the Principal Components Analysis technique. It is intended to perform the cluster analysis by hierarchical levels (Ward's method), and the construction of thematic maps for spatial distribution analysis of TB admissions. The census tracts are going to be ranked according to the scores obtained in the analyses previously established, and they are going to be classified in social equity and inequity. The correlation coefficients of Moran and the intensity estimator of Kernel are going to be used in the spatial analyses. It is also planned to use the Multiple Correspondence Analysis. (AU)
