Abstract

Assessing and diagnosing dysarthric disorders entails the study of five motor bases. These bases can be assessed by means of auditory perception and/or visual assessment, as well as through instrumental measurements.Objective:To analyze intra and inter-rater reliability in subjective visual assessment of dysarthric speakers.Methods:A cross-sectional study will be conducted.An initial sample of 60 speakers, comprising 30 dysarthrics and 20 adults without communication deficits, will be assessed.All participants will be submitted to those tasks from the Dysarthria Protocol (Ortiz, 2010)involving subjective visual assessment. The sections of the protocol analysed in this study shall include items from the structural assessment and articulationon verbal and non-verbal tasks.All tasks will be video recorded.The subjective visual assessment will be applied by two speech therapists experienced inacquired neurological speech disorders. Raters will be blinded topatient diagnosis and to oneanother's assessments.Eachrater will assess all 60 volunteers, whose videos shall be presented in random order. After three months, these samples shall be re-presented for rater reassessment and determination of intra-rater reliability. For statistical analyses, Kappa's tests are to be applied in cases of reasonable concordance, even if below 70%. The intraclass correlation coefficient will be applied to attain an estimateof proportion of total variability in measurements due to inter-individual variations. (AU)
