Abstract

This research proposal deals with the study of electronic properties of semiconductor nanostructures. In particular, we will investigate quantum Hall system, quantum transport of electrons and composite fermions in the mesoscopic regime, effects of strong AC fields on the transport, electronic strutucture and optical properties of quantum wells, quantum wires and quantum dots in the presence of magnetic fields. In the case of nanostructures over liquid helium, we will develop studies on edge magnetoplasmos, transport and many-body properties, and polaronic effects for surface electrons in quasi-unidimensional channels. We also address the open question of electron transport above helium films and other cryogenic substrates. Computacional simulations will be performed to determine structural and dynamical properties of these systems. (AU)
