The discursive act and the comprehension of textual-discursive activities

Abstract

The visit of Professor John Lachlan Mackenzie (Instituto de Linguística Teórica e Computacional (ILTEC), Lisbon - Portugal; and Free University Amsterdam, Amsterdam - Netherlands), a highly recognized researcher in Functional Grammar, Typology and Language Description, aims at improving the researches developed in Functional Linguistics at the Languages Graduate Program at Universidade Pesbiteriana Mackenzie (UPM),within the research line "Constitutive mechanisms of meaning in discourse and text". Professor Mackenzie's activities will include: i) the discussion of research projects supervised by Professor Maria Helena de Moura Neves and Professor José Gaston Hilgert: the former within the area of Grammatical Analysis and Textual-Discursive Production studies, and the latter within Conversational Analysis; ii) a workshop entitled "Discursive Act in Functional Discourse Grammar", at the Languages Graduate Program (MA and PhD), consisting of 6 sessions of 4 hours each for 3 weeks. The schedule also includes two one-day meetings with researchers and students from two other universities in Sao Paulo: Universidade de Sao Paulo (USP) and UNESP at Araraquara (FCL). Professor John Lachlan Mackenzie will stay at Universidade Presbiteriana Mackenzie during 18 days, from 9/16 to 9/28, and from 10/22 to 26/10, and in between those dates, he will be teaching at Universidade Federal do Mato Grosso do Sul at Três Lagoas (UFMS), financed by UFMS (with no expenses to FAPESP). UPM maintains a cooperation agreement with UFMS through an Interinstitutional Doctoral Program (DINTER) coordinated by professor Maria Helena de Moura Neves. (AU)
