Abstract
In this project we study the gravitational collapse of a polytropic distribution of matter out of the spherical symmetry in the characteristic formulation of general relativity. A parallelized numerical code is being developed for this purpose. For the numerical solution of the problem at hand we will make use of processing in mixed platform where CPUs (in platform OpenMPI) and GPU (in CUDA) are used simultaneously. Moreover, algebraic codes that have been developed in order to expedite obtaining and the simplification of the equations of the problem considered here are being improved and generalized. The purpose is to develop "packages" that can be applied to arbitrary spacetimes. (AU)
