Abstract

José Nuno Dinis Cabral Beirão is an architect and a professor at Faculdade de Arquitectura at UTL. He developed his PhD in the field of parametric urban design and shape grammars at TUDelf. At Unicamp he will contribute with his practical expertise on the use of rule-based systems in architectural design. This will be useful for two projects: Contemporary Architecture and Automation, and Leticia Teixeira Mendes PhD research. Leticia has a scholarship from FAPESP, and at this moment is finishing a one-year period at UTL, within prof. José Duartes research group, with which prof. Beirão also works. Besides, prof. Beiraos knowledge of genetic algorithms will be applied at the qualifying exam of Jarryer de Martino, another PhD student with a scholarship from FAPESP. His knowledge of Shape Grammar will be also used for the qualifying exam of Giovana de Godoi, a PhD student with a scholarship from CAPES, linked to the Digital Alberti research project (in which prof. Beirão also collaborates). Prof. Beirão will offer a graduate subject, will make a public presentation of his PhD research, will participate in two qualifying exams, and will offer technical consulting for the Contemporary Architecture and Automation project and Leticias PhD research.
