Abstract

The Fundação Parque Zoológico de São Paulo (FPZSP) is an entity created and maintained by the State Government of São Paulo, Brazil. In fulfilling its social function, the FPZSP maintains large number of animal species under conditions of preservation that depend directly on the environment in which they find themselves. The Environmental Management System (EMS) has a structure of this institution for the recycling and utilization of water and solid waste it generates. Thus the São Paulo Zoo has a Unit Production Organic Compound (UPCO) that, taking advantage of the waste generated in the Zoo, produces an organic fertilizer that is used on a farm to produce food for the animals. Whereas the composting process is performed by different microbial populations and is a system for analyzing the rich diversity or for biotechnological use, this project aims to assess the environmental influences on soil and water after using the compost on the farm of Fundação Parque Zoológico de São Paulo, in Araçoiaba Serra (SP) and prospect genes involved in processes improves digestibility of nutrients animal feed rations new formulation in industrially important polymer synthesis or production of new antibiotics and anticancer agents.
