Abstract
The obesity is the most important nutritional disorder, can be considered an epidemic. However, there are few weigh reduction drugs available in the market. Among the new possible drugs are: Cordia ecalyculata, a Brazilian plant with anorectic properties and Spirulina maxima, a cyanobacteria with antioxidant and anti-genotoxicity activity. This work evaluated the mutagenic potential of C. ecalyculata in doses of 150, 300 and 500 mg/Kg and its association to ¬S. maxima in doses of 150+75, 300+150 and 500+250 mg/Kg, respectively, through the in vivo micronucleus test, using mice of both sexes and the in vitro micronucleus test and comet assay, both using human peripheral blood. For all tests, it was used cyclophosphamide as positive control. The results showed anorectic effect in treatments with C. ecalyculata in dose of 300 mg/Kg and the association S. maxima in dose of 500+250mg/Kg. The mutagenic testes did not reveal clastogenic either genotoxicity action for all treatments, making than candidates to entrance in the market as weigh reduction drugs. Moreover, the drugs have chemo preventive substances that can avoid tumorigenesis, associated to obesity. (AU)
