Abstract

As a specialist in Functional Discourse Grammar (FDG), Professor Dr. Hella Olbertz will have research activities of two different natures during her visit at UNESP, aiming at the research projects under development in the Post Graduation Programme on Linguistic Studies: i) advisory services for the development of research projects using the theoretical approach of the FDG, and ii ) the direct collaboration in developing projects under the Research Agreement established between UNESP and the University of Amsterdam. Note that the visiting researcher is the coordinator of the Research Group on Functional Discourse Grammar, at the University of Amsterdam, a group that is the seat of the development of FDG. This position certainly gives her a privileged position to strengthen the relation between the members of the Dutch and the Brazilian research groups. To increase research activities and gather researchers with similar interests, the visiting researcher should also coordinate two workshops, one on modality and another on grammaticalization. Besides these activities, Professor Olbertz will contribute to the training of new researchers, by lecturing "Functional Discourse Grammar" in the UNESP Post-Graduation Programme in Linguistic Studies, will participate in the weekly meetings of the Research Group in Functional Grammar ( GPGF ) and will perform other activities related to the development of functionalist research, such as lectures and the debate of ongoing projects during the annual seminar of Linguistic held jointly by the two Post Graduation Programmes in Linguistic at UNESP in the cities of Araraquara and São José do Rio Preto.
