Abstract

The aim in this study is to assess the relation between intraoperative body temperature and the variables perioperative bleeding, thermal discomfort and duration of post-anesthesia recovery room stay in patients submitted to elective digestive system cancer surgeries. Therefore, a quantitative correlation study with a prospective and non-experimental research design will be undertaken by verifying the patient's tympanic temperature upon arrival at the operating room, at the start of the induction of anesthesia, at the start of the surgery and, then, every 20 minutes until the end of the anesthetic-surgical procedure. Data will also be collected about the number of blood bags transfused in the intraoperative period until the patient's discharge from the Post-Anesthesia Recovery Room (PARR); thermal comfort will be verified upon admission and before discharge from the PARR, on a scale from 0 to 10, in which zero (0) means extremely comfortable, or absence of the thermal feeling of coldness, and 10 excessively uncomfortable, or with a thermal feeling of excessive cold. The time of stay at the PARR will be assessed in minutes, starting from the admission to the PARR until the patient's discharge to the unit of destiny. (AU)
