Abstract

Health professionals and patients that have undergone multiple surgical procedures constitute a risk group for latex hypersensitivity. The exposure and sensitization may result from direct contact with the skin, mucous membranes, inhalation, ingestion, injection or parenteral inoculation. The objective of this study is to determine the latex allergen that most commonly sensitizes the population of patients with myelomeningocele and establish a standardized questionnaire to care of these patients and those suspected of latex allergy. Fifty 50 patients will be seletecd from a pool of previously treated for myelomeningocele from a period of October 2002 to October 2012. The RAST test (by immunoblotting method) specific to allergens from látex should be used. (AU)
