Abstract

The State Park of Serra do Mar, located on the edge of the Atlantic plateau, occupies the coastal region of São Paulo. It is now the largest continuous protected area of the State which protects the Atlantic Rain Forest and associated ecosystems. It is included in a territorial context of extreme complexity, between two major metropolitan areas: São Paulo and Santos. Its territory are present several infrastructure of road, power transmission, pipelines transport hydrocarbon that represent pressure on the environment. Added to these vectors there are tourism, hunting and extraction of palm hearts. This research project intends to analyze how this territorial context is included in the program of public use of the State Park of Serra do Mar. So we intend to contribute to future conservation projects PESM, providing subsidies for public use planning park, provide support for planning and government management in improving social and environmental conditions of the municipalities of the North Coast and propose a methodology for evaluating the effectiveness of conservation projects in terms of conservation areas related to public use of these protected areas.
