The aesthetic battles at the turn of the Nineteenth Century

Abstract

In the last decades of the Nineteenth Century, the esthetic battles preoccupied three lrish writers George Moore, Oscar Wilde and W.B. Yeats. In their essays and documents of the self, they reflect upon the difficulties of choosing a method to repressed life in the arts and in literature. The book presented for publication contains complete texts or excerpts, in Portuguese, which show the dialogue between different critical approaches related to the so-called-isms. The Postface includes one creative text by each of the writers-critics to illustrate their aesthetic ideas, and takes the reader to one of James Joyce's short stories showing the synthesis of different aesthetic tendencies.
