Abstract
This proposal aims to study the feasibility of reuse of treated water from the pilot plant wastewater treatment by compact bed of roots as an alternative source of water and nutrients in the hydroponic cultivation of lettuce (Lactuca sativa L). The experiment will be performed Agricultural Science Center-UFSCar in Araras, SP, in a greenhouse. The crops will be from October to December 2013 and from April to June 2014. The hydroponic system adopted is the technique of Laminar Flow of Nutrients (NFT), are three treatments, the first water supply and commercial nutrient solution, the second with sewage treated and supplemented with commercial nutrient solution according to analysis results prior chemistry, and the third only treated sewage in order to evaluate the availability of nutrients that were not completely extracted during the treatment process and also verify that the hydroponics can act as an additional polishing treatment as done in the sewer. Each treatment will consist of four benches (repetitions), a reservoir of 500 L to store the nutrient solution, a set bike pump and a timer. Each bench will have four profiles hydroponic polypropylene with 3 meters long each, with 12 plants per profile, totaling 192 per treatment. Will be assessed productivity parameters, microbiological quality and health of lettuce plants, amount of commercial fertilizer used to supplement the nutrient solution reuse water, nutrient consumption. It is hoped that the results demonstrate the feasibility of utilizing recycled water as an alternative source of water and nutrients in hydroponic lettuce. (AU)
