Abstract

The application for the funding to sponsor Philip Arestis' visit to Brazil aims to contribute to finalize part of the post-doctoral research of Carolina Troncoso Baltar, sponsored by FAPESP, under Daniela Magalhães Prates' supervision, from the economics institute of the State University of Campinas (Unicamp). The project is entitled "The Brazilian Economy in the Recent Period: a study of changes in the External Trade and Industrial Production" (process number 2013/05464-5, from 01/06/2013 to 31/05/2015). The research that has been developed with professor Philip Arestis and that would be finished with his visit to Unicamp aims to advance in methodologies to study theoretically and empirically the Brazilian economic growth in the recent period. More specifically, the research aims to contribute to the debate on the Brazilian economic growth, specifically the role of internal market and exports in this model. The discussion gained importance after the global crisis of 2008-2009 that increased the competition between producers of manufacturing goods, showing the competitiveness problems faced by the Brazilian industry in the external and internal markets.
