Abstract

Hot forging is a metal forming process which allows severe plastic deformations enabling the improvement of mechanical properties what has led to its continued development for industrial applications. The conventional hot forging of complex geometry (connecting rods, crankshafts, and suspension arms) is performed in several steps and needs additional finishing operations by machining to correct errors introduced by forging. This research aims the development of multidirectional forging to obtain products with geometric details which are normally not possible in conventional hot forging, without excessive loading or the many steps need in the conventional process.
