Abstract

The present project is aimed at an in-depth study of the physiopathology of several neurological disturbances so as to be able to make available more effective therapeutic resources to the patients affected by them. Some of the sub-projects that make up the present study aim to elucidate the determinant mechanisms of severe and/or chronic neuronal death which lead to structural and functional alterations. Other sub-projects are devoted to the study of plastic phenomena involved in the post-lesional adaptation of the central nervous system. In this context, experimental models of epilepsy and of ischemia will be used for the study of the development, neurogenesis and matrix, metabolism, as well as hormonal and immunological alterations.
