Abstract

Calophyllaceae (= Kielmeyeroideae in Clusiaceae s.l.) is composed of 13 genera and about 460 neo- and paleotropical species. The majority (12 genera) forms the tribe Calophylleae. Within this tribe there is a clade formed by the genera (Kielmeyera (Caraipa + Haploclathra)) strongly supported as monophyletic. Together the genera comprise about 80 spp. Kielmeyera, with about 47 spp., occurs mainly in Brazil and it occurs in diverse ecological formation, from dry areas of savannas, humid forests, sandbank vegetation and dunes along the Atlantic coast. The delimitation of several species of Kielmeyera is still confusing, partly because certain species show few differences from the closest ones, with at least three species complexes in this genus that need more studies. The genera Caraipa and Haploclathra, with about 30 and 4 spp. respectively, are sister groups, but the monophyly of each needs further investigation. Both genera have their distribution mainly in the Amazon and north of the Amazon, where they occur in terra-firme, flooded forests and savannas. Unlike Haploclathra, Caraipa and Kielmeyera need a new taxonomic review, as the existing ones are incomplete and the Identification keys are of little use. This project aims to present a taxonomic synopsis of the genera and evaluate the phylogenetic relationships among the species through the classical approach - with 5 gene regions: matK, ndhF, rbcL, Emb and ITS - and the next generation sequencing - RAD-Seq (methodology). It is expected to obtain the resolution of the species complexes with the genomic approach. (AU)
