Pre and postoperatively evaluation, by cardiovascular magnetic resonance, of patients with mitral valve regurgitation undergoing mitral valve repair with the "double Teflon" technique

Abstract

The mitral valve repair without prosthetic rings preserves the dynamics of the mitral valve, preserving the left ventricular function. Cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging is a tool that has been used in assessing the dynamics of the mitral annulus and the remodeling of the atrium and ventricle. Objective: To evaluate the morphological and functional changes of the mitral valve and cardiac remodeling by cardiovascular magnetic resonance in subjects with mitral regurgitation of degenerative etiology who underwent surgical treatment of mitral valve with the "double Teflon" technique. Method: Will be evaluated 30 consecutive patients with mitral regurgitation of degenerative etiology undergoing mitral valve repair using the "double Teflon" technique. These patients will be assessed by cardiovascular magnetic resonance, using specific guidelines, in which will be observed the degree and mechanism of mitral valve regurgitation, as well as the dynamics of the mitral annulus during the cardiac cycle before and after surgical correction. Cardiac remodeling will be analyzed using measures obtained in the evolutionary control, being used as parameters the dimensions and end-systolic volume, end-diastolic and ejection fraction of the left atrium and the left ventricle. It will be also performed analysis of segmental contractility, viability and the presence of myocardial fibrosis. These patients will be evaluated in the pre-operative, immediate postoperative period and up to two years of follow up. Will be used the analysis of variance for repeated measures for the statistical study, being considered statistically significant P <0.05. (AU)
