Abstract

This proposal, submitted to the Visiting Professor Program, Call of FAPESP (Grant for), aims to receive Dr. Earl Mark Olson Zunica from Institute of Biology, Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) at UNESP, Botucatu, for research and teaching activities. The research activity will include visits in the field at cerrado and caatinga and also meetings to discuss the development of the research project "Xylem vessel taper and the hydraulic causes of plant response to climate change" with the team members of the project, Dr. Mark Earl Olson, Dr. Silvia Rodrigues Machado (UNESP, Botucatu), Dr. Rivete Silva Lima (UFPB, João Pessoa) and Dr. Carmen Regina Marcati (UNESP, Botucatu). The other activity will be teaching the course "Science Writing in English / writing in Scientific Inglês" at the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, UNESP, Botucatu, for lecturers, researchers, students (graduate and undergraduate). The main results expected by developing activities mentioned above will be: training of lecturers, researchers and students with respect to scientific writing in English through the course to be taught; contribution and expansion of the researches at UNESP, Botucatu; publications resulted from the research project at international journals of high impact factor; strengthening of the institutional relationships between UNESP, Botucatu, and UNAM, Mexico City, with implementing technical-scientific cooperation agreements involving the participation of teachers and students from Brazil and Mexico.
