Abstract

Breast cancer is the most prevalent cancer among women in the state of São Paulo (SP). In Brazil actions of screening and early diagnosis for a target population were consensual in 2004. The beginning of these actions in primary care has been prioritized since 2006. However, 60% of cases are diagnosed at advanced stages, suggesting that there may be failures in the implementation of the proposal, and there are few data regarding the execution of the program in primary care. Objective: To identify the implementation of actions for the control of breast cancer in basic health units (BHU) proposed by the Ministry of Health. Methodology: This research is part of a larger project involving part of the city of São Paulo and the city of Diadema, which is coordinated by a professor from the Federal University of São Paulo. Evaluative and cross-sectional study with a qualitative and quantitative approach, with the application of validated instruments to a random sample of users of BHU aged from 35 to 69 years, of nurses of the city of Ribeirão Preto, and of managers of these administrative bodies, which work in the control of breast cancer. The characteristics of structure and process of the breast cancer control program determined to primary care will be investigated. Data collection will be performed at BHU by a trained team, after the approval of the Research Ethics Committee and the signature of the informed consent form. The data will be stored in the database. Proportions of loss or information not found, frequencies and proportions will be measured using the statistical program SPSS, and depending on the answers, the association between them can be analyzed. Thematic analysis will be used for qualitative data. (AU)
