Abstract

This request seeks support for an one-week visit (October 10-19th, 2014) of Lora L. Arnold, M. Sc., from the Department of Pathology and Microbiology (DPM), Nebraska University Medical Center (UNMC), to the Department of Pathology, Medical School of Botucatu, UNESP, specifically to the Center for Assessment of Environmental Impact on Human Health (TOXICAM). Ms. Lora L. Arnold is assistant professor at UNMC and Principal Investigator (P.I.) at the Dr. Samuel M. Cohen`s research laboratory. The TOXICAM and the UNMC develop collaborative research for many years, being Lora Arnold and Samuel Cohen co-authors of several scientific publications by the TOXICAM. In fact, Dr. Samuel M. Cohen has come annually to the Department of Pathology, Medical School of Botucatu, UNESP, where he is faculty member of the Post-graduate (PG) Program in Pathology (CAPES level 5.0) and formal supervisor of two Ph.D. students. As can be seen by her curriculum vitae, Ms. Lora Arnold is a very productive researcher - among her seventy (70) publications in scientific journals with peer-reviewing editorial policy, thirty (30) were accomplished during the last five (05) years , when she also got 04 grants from U.S. agencies for funding research. The program of her visit to TOXICAM encopass two (02) seminars to postgraduate students of the PG Program in Pathology, hands-on evaluation of the routine procedures by post-graduate students and researchers at the TOXICAM animal facility and laboratory bench to monitor compliance with Good Laboratories Practices (GLP), and analyses and discussion of the results already available from ongoing collaborative research projects, including preparation of manuscripts for submission to scientific journals.
