Abstract

Adolescent idiopathic scoliosis is a common three-dimensional spinal deformity. However, there are no enough epidemiological data about it in South America. Objectives. To estimate adolescent idiopathic scoliosis prevalence rate in five cities of São Paulo, Brazil. To analyze the adolescents´ quality of life and body posture. Methods. The Angle of Trunk Rotation (ATR) assessed by Bunnell´s scoliometer will be measured in 2.516 adolescents between 10 and 14 years of age. The quality of live, radiographic examination and posture will be measured only in adolescents with ATR e 7 degrees. We will use Postural Assessment Software (PAS) and Foot Posture Index (FPI) to analyze posture, and the validated questionnaire Br-SRS-22r to quality of life. Descriptive statistics and analysis of variance data analysis will be utilized to verify differences among groups (gender, age, with or without scoliosis).
