Abstract
The main goal of this proposal is to evaluate the hypothesis of meteoritic impact to explain the formation of Cerro do Jarau structure, located in the city of Quaraí/RS, based on geological models constructed from inversions of magnetic and gravity data and also from interpretations of gamma-ray spectrometric data. This formation hypothesis has not been conclusively proved yet, but all available geological evidence supports it. All geophysical data will be collected, processed and interpreted in order to characterize the main patterns of geophysical anomalies. Afterward, 3D subsurface models of densities and magnetizations will be constructed taking into account the available geological information. These models will expand the geological understanding of the subsurface of this and other similar structures formed over basaltic rocks. (AU)
