Abstract

Neglected diseases (NDs) are usually transmitted with a higher incidence in developing or emerging countries. Among these NDs leishmaniasis, malaria and tuberculosis affect and kill millions of people around the world every year. Thus, the finding of treatments with high therapeutic efficacy, greater safety and shorter duration for patients affected by neglected diseases is urgent. In this sense, nanostructured systems have shown great potential for application in the development of innovative medicines. Among the available methods of obtaining such systems, the one stands out is by high-pressure homogenization. This method, among other advantages, allows production of nanostructured lipid carriers and nanocrystals on an industrial scale. These systems have the advantage of raising the therapeutic efficacy and safety of medicines. The objective of this work is to develop a technology r- platform for obtaining nanostructured systems with potential application in the treatment of neglected diseases. As model drugs for the development of the platform rifampicin as well as buparvaquone will be used. (AU)
