Abstract

Sepsis is a disease of the elderly, since the average age of septic individuals is 65 years old. The elderly, in addition, has a higher mortality from this disease.Septic encephalopathy is a common manifestation in sepsis and contributes significantly to a worse prognosis. The present study aims to conduct a large-scale transcriptomic analysis of young and aged rats subjected to septic shock. We intend, therefore, to identify signaling pathways preferentially activated in the elderly, in order to better characterize the particularities of the cerebral involvement in this population, a factor that should contribute significantly to their higher mortality.
