Abstract

The proposed activities for the stay of Dr. Rui Taborda are oriented to strengthen a previous collaboration between the research groups of the University of Lisbon and the Oceanographic Institute (University of São Paulo). This proposal includes the two following teaching activities: the course "Sediment transport mechanics in coastal and shelf environments" to post-graduate students, and a conference to pre-graduate students in Oceanography. Moreover, the stay will be focused in his collaboration in different research projects currently in progress. Thus, Dr. Taborda will collaborate in the Hydrodynamics (module 5) and Sedimentary Dynamics (module 6) of the project "Biodiversity and functioning of a subtropical coastal ecosystem: tools for integrated management - BIOTA/FAPESP - Araçá", including his participation in the core and surface sediments sampling, bathymetric measurements, geomorphological analyses, calibration of the hydrodynamic numerical model, and the combination of all the results to analyze the sediment transport. Dr. Taborda also will collaborate in the project: "Origin and evolution of the prograding infralittoral wedge in the São Sebastião Island (FAPESP 2014/08295-2)", and will participate in a sediment sampling survey on board the oceanographic vessel Alpha Delphini.
