Abstract

Aging individuals are more susceptible to infections and tumors along with a poor response to vaccinations. On the other hand, they can develop autoimmunity by presenting a robust imune response. We believe that aging is associated with na imbalance in the imune system homeostasis but this process is still not clear. Myeloid-derived supressor cells (MDSCs) were identified in patients with cancer but their modulatory role in the immune response was also observed in autoimmunity, infections, alergy, and transplantation. Considering that are few studies evaluating MDSCs in elderly and the down regulation caused by these cells in the immune system which can contribute for the increased susceptibility to infections and tumors besides of the poor response to vaccination it seems important to investigated the role played by MDSCs in the aging population. Therefore our ai mis to evaluate the percentage of MDSCs in two distint healthy aging population (Brazilian and British) from both gender and older than 65 years. Next, MDSCs will be isolated and co-cultured with autologous lymphocytes production. Results will be compared with individual clinic data (cancer history, alergy, vaccination response, etc.). The further understanding of the suppresive role played by MDSCs can contribute for the development of new therapies to the aging population. (AU)
