Abstract

The accumulated lactate metabolism during physical activity incapacitates the muscle to keep intensity in a given intensity. In this sense, studies have been developed seeking to solve this problem through the development of ergogenic supplements. The objective of the research will be to verify the effect of the period of supplementation with dimethylglycine in untrained horses submitted to exercise of increasing intensity on metabolic parameters, indices related to performance and physiological. Will be used four horses Arabian breed, live weight (LW) 340 kg. The utilized experimental delineation was the Latin square 4 x 4, constituted by four periods of four weeks of evaluation, intercalated with four weeks of wash out periods. Each period will consist of 60 days, requiring up to 240 days to accomplish all Latin square. The treatments will consist of periods with dimethylglycine oral administration at a dosage of 7.5 mg/kg BW. Thus, the treatment will consist of a control group, ie, without supplementation (WS), supplementation for 10 days (S10), supplementation for 20 days (S20) and supplementation for 30 days (S30). The variables will be measured metabolic parameters (plasma concentrations of lactate and glucose during and after exercise), indexes related to performance (speed at which the horse reaches 200 beats per minute - V200, the speed corresponding to the value of blood lactate 4 mmol/L - VL4 and distance traveled) and physiological (rectal temperature - RT and heart rate - HR before and after exercise). The variables in the performance of the animals will be subjected to analysis of variance of the software Statistical Analysis System (SAS, 2000). Comparisons will be made between means by Tukey test at 5% significance level. (AU)
