Selenium and tellurium reagents in organic synthesis

Abstract

The project aims the development of new tellurium reagents for synthetic purposes. Vinylic tellurides of the Z configuration are obtained by hydrotelluration of acetylenes. A transmetallation reaction with higher order cyanocuprates transforms them into higher order Z-vinylic cuprates, which react with enones and epoxides. This reaction is being applied to synthesize complex molecular, such as Macrolactins (anti HIV agent), enediyne systems (present in enediyne antibiotics) and syphonodiol (antifungel agent). Several other reagents containing selenium and tellurium are under investigation. (AU)
