Abstract

Having noticed that cellular automata (CAs) are increasingly often usedto to processes images and recognize patterns, and acknowledging the exper-tise of the parties involved in this proposal, i.e. CAs and image processing,the research unit of dr. Jan Baetens and the one of prof. Bruno recently de-cided to initiate a research line on CA-based image processing and patternrecognition. It goes without saying that such a joint research line can only belaunched successfully if future research activities are carefully planned, anddetailed plans are compiled to apply for funding from Belgian and Brazil-ian funding agencies in the near future. By visiting the research unit ofprof. Bruno when the first PhD students starts his activities along the jointresearch, dr. Jan Baetens and prof. Bruno will be enabled to guarantee apromising future for the maturation of their joint research line. (AU)
