Abstract

Objectives. The current study sought to investigate differences and similarities between women who experience three delivery models: the humanized birth, elective caesarean section, and vaginal delivery with obstetric violence. We aimed to identify whether obstetric violence or an earlier delivery (through elective caesarean section) generate losses for the woman and her relationship with the baby. The findings of the current study may inform public policies focused on the humanization of childbirth and obstetric violence reduction. Materials and Method. Ninety women were selected, with equal numbers representing the following three groups: those who underwent an elective cesarean, those, who experienced a humanized birth, and those who experienced obstetric violence. A psychological interview was held, with the following five instruments applied: the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale, the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale, the Factorial Scale Satisfaction with Relationship bed, the Phillipson Test of Object Relations, and the Sociodemographic Questionnaire. Qualitative analysis was performed using the Object Relations Theory of Melanie Klein. Quantitative analysis included both inferential and descriptive statistical analysis. (AU)
