Abstract

The agouti (Dasyprocta sp) is a rodent that can be used as an alternative source of animal protein. It is essential to know the reproductive biology and morphology of the reproductive organs for incrementing its production. Given the importance that the agouti can represent when to become a source of inexpensive protein, and to foster its creation in captivity, and the lack of information on reproductive morphology of these animals, the objective of this proposal is to describe the morphology, by light microscopy, and the immunolocalization of aquaporins (AQPs) 1 and 9 in the excurrent ducts (rete testis, efferent ducts, epididymis and vas deferens), and identify the regional histology of the epididymal duct in agouti, aiming to cooperate with future investigations, especially those related to rational exploration of these rodents. For this, we will collect fragments of the testes, epididymis and proximal vas deferens of ten agoutis, adult and sexually mature. After histological fixation in paraformaldehyde for 24 hours, the samples will be intended for inclusion in the routine ParaplastTM (Sigma, St. Louis, MO, USA). Following, it will be obtain histological sections 5 mm thick, which are mounted on silanized slides, and the material will be destine to histological routine and immunohistochemical detection for AQPs 1 and 9.
