Establishment of multicenter platform for the development of molecular imaging agents

Abstract

The project proposed provides sharing of knowledge and infraestructure among the Radiochemistry Research and Training Facility, and Radiopharmacy Laboratory of Medical Center Nuclear - USP, for development and comparison of radiopharmaceuticals labeled with isotopes as (18F)fluorine, (68Ga)gallium and (99mTc)technetium. The first approach will be applying the current knowledge of the 18F-labeled peptides produced at UC Davis, and modifying them for labeling with metals 68Ga and 99mTc, at USP, and evaluating them pre-clinically in vitro and in vivo. Conversely, molecules that are being studied in USP, e.g. thiosemicarbazone wiil be modified to allow for radiolabeling with 18F, by the UC Davis radiochemistry group. At the end of this project, it is expected the strong establishment of cooperative ties between the two groups to the developmentof new radiopharmaceuticals for diagnosis and ultimately products for therapy. A training platform for the next generation fo radiochemists and radiopharmacists will be established. (AU)
