The use of flipped class, as a new teaching strategy in accounting

Abstract

The flipped class is a pedagogical approach that occurs when students become active learners and study the class material beforehand as homework. The new generation of students is more engaged with the intensive use of technology and collaborative learning. However, there are few studies on the flipped class method using technology and active methods that resulted in a better engagement and improvement in student performance. This study aims to investigate the performance gain over the class and the students' perception of the use of extended flipped class approach. We intend to conduct research in two undergraduate classes in accounting with the same curriculum content, attending the course of research methodology through four inverted classes. The sample will consist of accounting students a public university in Brazil. Each class begins with an assingned before class and addition, students must post and vote for their difficulties concerning the same prior assignment. In each class, there will be two quizzes given before and after the collaborative activities without help from the teacher, which will be based on the most voted difficulties. After these initial activities, the teacher will help students in other questions posted online. It is expected, the results of quizzes to ascertain whether the extended flipped classes provide improvement of the construction of individual and collective knowledge process. In addition, a survey of students in order to determine whether they approve of the use of flipped class as an appropriate teaching strategy will be made. Universities should encourage the use of active / collaborative methodologies and technological resources as a means of improving educational processes (AU)
